Susan Hazer Bio
Susan Hazer’s Studio in the historic Stutz Building in Indianapolis
Susan Hazer, an Indianapolis jewelry artist, has worked out of the Stutz Business and Arts Center since 2009. She loved and collected art jewelry for decades and finally embarked on her own journey creating art in 2001 with a beginning silversmithing class at the Indianapolis Art Center. She was hooked after the first jewelry class and fell in love with studying a wide variety of metalworking techniques including fold forming, chasing and repousse, chain making, bezel setting, hammering, and hollow form construction.
A recent interest for Susan has been working with beads. Beads excite her with the myriad of possibilities for color, texture, size, and shape. She is drawn to combining beads from different cultures, continents, and eras in one piece.
Susan was involved with education and training throughout her early career and worked as a human resource consultant specializing in employee selection and career development. Susan is an avid traveler and has visited 43 countries and 5 continents. She loves both the oceans and the mountains and particularly enjoys watching sunsets from an ocean shore. She and her husband like to explore the underwater world by snorkeling. One of her favorite places in the world is the Galapagos Islands, and she and her husband were lucky enough to climb to the Tiger’s Nest in Bhutan.
Susan is inspired by nature and is particularly moved by water with its calm and power. She uses simple designs and often prefers the asymmetrical. Susan incorporates hearts into many of her designs. She was born on Valentine’s Day, practices yoga, and strives to live with an open heart. Hearts are important symbols for her. Susan hopes your heart is touched by her work.
